The Marrickville-Petersham district has a long and proud cricket history, with Marrickville District Cricket Club commencing in 1910. Our district and has been home to many Test legends - Australian Captain Bob Simpson and four of Bradman's 'Invincibles' - Sid Barnes, Ernie Toshack, Bill Brown and Ron Saggers.
Cricket greats Johnny Martin, Pat Crawford, Bill Alley, Jack Moroney and Tommy TJ Andrews also emerged from the Marrickville-Petersham area. Our area also boasts three Australian Women Test Cricketers - Mollie "the Demon" Flaherty, Hazel "Girl Bradman" Pritchard and Amy Hudson.
The modern Marrickville Cricket Club was formed in the 1992 and entered junior and senior teams in the local Canterbury & Western Suburbs Cricket Association competitions.
We are very proud to name our MCC teams after some of the great players from our district. We stand on the shoulders of giants.

Since 2000 MCC has focused on and expanded its junior cricket program to provide for girls and boys in the area to develop their interest, skills and love of the game. We now offer cricket programs from ages 4 and up that support girl's and boy's development. This includes:
- Junior Blasters for 5-7 year old girls and boys
- Master Blasters for 7-12 year old girls and boys
- CWSCA junior club competition for Stage 1, U11, U13 & U15 players
- Sydney Thunder Girl's League competition for U13 & U15 girl
Junior club competition players over 13yo may play as seniors without an additional fee - subject to assessment of safety and parental approval. We are focussed on developing players who enjoy their cricket and have a strong tradition of our players trialling for, and being selected to, CWSCA Representative teams and Senior Grade clubs.
We also are committed to supporting parents of these young crickets in developing their knowledge of the game, coaching, scoring and umpiring skills. We invest in offering and delivering informal and formal training to build the capacity of our club, the support for our teams and increase everyone's enjoyment whether a player, parent, coach, supporter, volunteer or watching from the sidelines.
DEVELOPING SKILLS AND COMPETITIVE PLAYERS
5-7 years Our "Marrickville Minis" play Junior Blasters. This provides a modified form of cricket that is safe and fun for young players. It uses specially designed equipment from Cricket Australia including softer balls. The emphasis is on learning skills and having fun. As well as making friends, children build skills like catching, throwing and confidence for later years in team cricket. Our program runs Saturday mornings 8.30-10.00 am, from October until the Christmas break and then again in February-March. Players receive all equipment needed and get a hat, shirt, ball and bat to keep. Parents participate through leading, participating or supporting the fun skill development activities. Both players and parents 'learn as you go' thanks to a very well designed program from Cricket Australia.
7-10 years Primary aged girls and boys can try the game with our Master Blasters program. A weekly 90 minute game session run over 8 weeks in February & March on a Friday evening. We run Girls Only and Mixed Centres. All equipment is supplied and parents join in the fun by umpiring, wrangling players and scoring.
Stage 1, U11, U13 & U15 Competition
Equipment: We provide a cap and shirt for each new player and a club kit for each team. Players are welcome to bring their own bat, etc, but do not have to. Please do bring your white trousers, and your protector (we have some of these in the kits, but its an item better not shared!). Also a water bottle and sunscreen, please. Additional shirts and other supporter gear can be bought from the Club.
Stage 1 & U11 teams: 7 players per team, 16m pitch, 40m boundary - the shorter pitch and smaller boundary = more balls in play to be hit and fielded supporting better skill development for all players. 20 overs, approximately 2 hours. Play Saturday mornings on fields around the Inner West.
U13s: 9 players/team, 18m pitch, 45m boundary - shorter pitch and smaller boundary = more balls in play to be hit and fielded supporting better skill development for all players. 20-30 overs, approximately 2-3 hours. Play Saturday mornings on fields around the Inner West.
U15s: 11 players/team, 20m pitch, 50m boundary. U15's play a mix of one-day (30-30) games and two-day games over consecutive Saturday mornings. Games are Saturday mornings on fields around the Inner West.
DEVELOPING GIRLS CRICKET
MCC is committed to developing girls and their families interest, skills and love of cricket from the earliest age through to club competition and representative level.
At MCC there is no such thing as a girl's sport or boy's sport - there is just cricket. Following on from the amazing success of the Women's Big Bash League and the Southern Stars Cricket Australia, Cricket NSW and local associations are focusing on encouraging girls to join in the fun of cricket.
We start with Junior Blaster (4-7 years) and provide players and coaches as role models to build their confidence and competence at cricket alongside the boys.
In the 7-12 year age group MCC works with CricketNSW to run the Master Blasters Inner West Girls Only centre. This an 8 week program of 90-minute sessions overseen by professional coaches and has all players batting, bowling and fielding to a backdrop of music and fun. Girls take centre stage and enjoy the sport with friends and old and new. Master Blaster is a great format to give primary school-aged girls a taste of the excitement of the game and develop cricket skills.
Girls aged 7-15 years are also eligible and welcome to play in the CWSCA junior club competition Stage 1, U11, U13 and U15s teams. We encourage mixed teams especially at the Stage 1 and U11 age groups.
MCC also enters teams in the girls only competition - Sydney Thunder Girls League. These teams are U13 and U15 nine-a-side teams which play on Saturday afternoons. These teams are supported by strong coaching and enthusiastic parents.
MCC girl players are also eligible to trial for Canterbury & Western Suburbs Cricket Association (CWSCA) representative teams in the U13 Mollie Dive and U15 Margaret Peden Shield competitions. These representative teams play on Sundays. Trials usually take place in early September and games commence in October.
MCC has established links with the Universities Women Grade Cricket Club to give our female players aged 12/13 and up further coaching, playing and development opportunities in the Brewers Cup and continuing on to 3rd, 2nd and 1st Grade as they age.
